Event Description

The South Jersey Traffic Safety Alliance (SJTSA) has kicked off their summer safety campaign, targeting the southern shore communities, using Casey’s face and story to add a human element to the dangers of unsafe driving and the need for pedestrians to use caution. They have already distributed over 100 banners which are prominently displayed in the shore communities and throughout southern N.J. There are two separate banners, one addressing drivers and the other, pedestrians. Both have a picture of Casey with her face and dates.

In addition to the banners, the SJTSA has joined with the city of Sea Isle, dedicating a pink remembrance tree to Casey on JFK Blvd. in front of the police department. A plaque with Casey’s name and dates can be found at the base of the tree. In addition to the banners, the SJTSA has joined with the city of Sea Isle, dedicating a pink remembrance tree to Casey on JFK Blvd. in front of the police department. A plaque with Casey’s name and dates can be found at the base of the tree. Pink trees have also been dedicated in Salem, Northfield and Ocean City, N.J.

When you are at the shore this summer, get a picture of yourself or friends in front of one of the banners or trees and provide us with the location. We will add it to our summer banner and tree album. It is a great way to remember Casey this summer and remind yourselves and others of traffic safety during the busy summer months at the shore!

Simply upload your photo on the site with the photo location, names of people in the photo and where you/they are from. I will add it to the album, “Summer Safety at the Shore – Casey Banners and Pink Trees”.

Note: For the location of some 10 of the Ocean City banner locations, read the article on the Foundation blog South Jersey Summer Safety Campaign Features Casey Feldman . Friends from down here at the shore continue to tell us about their seeing the Casey banners and the reminder to be vigilant while both driving and walking the streets. Because we have either forgotten to take our camera or realized too late that the camera needed new batteries, we are going to make a special trip to one of the many banners and to the Bob's Grill Casey tree to take some photos to post.

We visited the "Pink Tree' located outside of Bob's Grille on the Ocean City boardwalk this Sunday. They now have a beautiful plaque under the tree indicating its importance and reason. And there is usually someone sitting on the bench next to the tree and we always explain the significance of the tree and our personal connection to it.

Thank you Alice. Actually, it was the SJTSA who has done the whole banner thing and is coordinating the decorating of the memorial trees, along with Sgt. Simonson of the Ocean City Police Dept., who is really active in all of this also. When Rachael sent me the photo of her youth pastor in front of the banner, it planted the seed of more photos. I peruse Facebook and all of Casey's friends have already been going to the shore. I have received 3-4 messages from different friends each time one sees a banner or the tree. Thus, the inspiration for an album!
