I have been going to the Jersey Shore for most of my life. I know, without a doubt, that I have never seen more care shown by drivers on the road as I did this holiday weekend. It was very obvious that more and more cars were stopping at corners (regardless of whether there was a crosswalk, light, stop sign, etc.) than I have ever seen before. Every corner we stopped at, cars stopped and waved us on. And, we went back and forth to the beach many many times over the 3 days! I made this comment to Chelsea as we were crossing one day and she agreed that everyone was stopping. Additionally saw several of the banners at places I frequent (Acme, produce shop), and, of course, reflected on Casey and said some words about her to whoever we were with at the time. It brightened the already sunny days seeing her beautiful face.
I experienced the same thing, Linda. My husband and I were in OC during the Memorial Day weekend and as we approached various intersections, we witnessed cars ahead of us and on-coming traffic slowing down and coming to a stop so that pedestrians could cross the streets safely. I noticed cars coming to a complete stop even before pedestrians stepped a foot onto the cross walks. No doubt that already lives have been saved and pedestrians have been spared from injury. Truly amazing that my niece is still spreading love and caring in spite of not being physically with us.

Janice~ I've been waiting to see a reply to my message because of how obvious it was! I agree with your comment on drivers actually coming to a complete stop even when they saw pedestrians waiting on the corner; not even in the street! Yes it is amazing that Casey is still making a difference and keeping so many people safe. Her magic has not stopped working! You and your family have a safe and happy summer.
It warms my heart to know that drivers are using more caution in Ocean City and in such an obvious way. People are clearly aware of what happened to Casey and presumably of the new law. I believe that the SJTSA's banner campaign is helping. How can one not think about the consequences of unsafe driving in Ocean City after seeing Casey's face? Linda, you may want to get a picture of you and Chelsea in front of one of the banners to post in our album on the site. See my event, "Summer Shore Goers - Send your Banner and Tree Photos!" Thanks so much for initiating this discussion Linda.
I completely agree that everyone is taking notice of the Casey banner in Ocean City and have been more cautious drivers as a result. My friend Katie related to me what her mother saw while grocery shopping in Ocean City a few weeks before Memorial Day weekend. Katie's mom was in the parking lot of the Acme on 34th street in Ocean City and saw a woman with her hands full of grocery bags attempting to cross the parking lot to get to her car. Some other woman in her SUV was driving fast through the parking lot, not paying attention to the people around her. Katie's mom said that it was obvious this woman was not going to stop and allow this pedestrian to cross the street to get to her car until, that is, she looked up and saw one of Casey's banners. Once she saw the Casey sign, she stopped and let the pedestrian cross the parking lot to get to her car. I've told a few people this story and every time I do, I get the same response. Everyone responds by telling me that they have also noticed more people stopping to let others cross the street and they hope everyone notices their Casey bumper stickers and/or Casey signs so they will stop for pedestrians too.
