Although I think about Casey every day and even speak to her every day, my emotions are heightened by her approaching birthday. In three days, Casey will be 25 years old. Certainly a milestone in everyone's life. With that in mind, I wonder what she would have been doing for her birthday and then picture her with friends and her cousin Jamie getting dressed to go out to dinner and maybe do a little dancing afterwards. I wonder what lucky young man might have been in life stepping out with girls to celebrate with Casey and her posse. I imagine her working in New York City as a reporter with goals of becoming news anchor. I see her living in a charming little apartment with her cats. I see her closet filled with pretty dresses, many of them pink. And I see pictures of her family and friends that she lovingly mounted on her bedroom walls. And then when I look at Casey, I see the broad, familiar smile that spoke of sincere happiness and a sprinkle of mischievousness. Although Casey is not physically with us to celebrate her 25th birthday, I know that she will be watching as her mother, father, friends and cousins come together to celebrate the life and achievements of a very, very special young woman who is deeply missed by all who knew her. Happy Birthday, my darling Casey.
Remembering my angel on her 25th,
Aunt Janice
Not a day goes by that I don't think of Casey. Every morning as I pour my coffee, I look at Casey's picture on my kitchen counter and greet her with a "Good morning, Casey!" Her picture is a pleasant reminder of the beautiful young woman who made me proud to be called her aunt. Again when I climb into my car and look toward to dashboard, Casey's picture greets me with a gentle smile. Again, I take the opportunity to speak to her. These are the private moments that off me time to spend alone with my niece; moments that now, more often than no,t bring a smile to my face. Yes, there are still times when I tear-up, like now, but there are many times when I have to smile as I remember the good times with Casey and the times yet to come with Casey.
Always missed and always on my mind.
