My kids and I participated in the Purple Stride 5k for Pancreatic Cancer this past Saturday in Fairmount Park...we lost a family member to this horrible cancer last year. We had a beautiful turnout on a beautiful day in a beautiful park and will continue to raise awareness...KNOW IT; FIGHT IT; END IT!!!

My kids and I walked this past Saturday for Autism at the Riverwinds Community in West Deptford. We've devoted our energies to this Walk over the past three years. While Autism Speaks will continue to raise money to find a cure; this Walk raises money to assist families struggling to provide their child with the necessary intervention. Over the past three years we've been able to provide Social Skills Training, Respite Care and Speaker/Training Forums. Even in these tough economic times we were able to raise over $82,000...and still counting!!!

Hi everyone! My best friend, Tina Aufiero is running her first half marathon in Boston this summer, where she lives, with Team Challenge. She is raising money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, for our mutual friend who was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in high school. It's a great cause, and one that is close to our hearts. If anyone is interested in learning more about the cause or even contributing to Tina's fundraiser, here is the link to her site:

Thanks everyone!

So I unfortunately hurt my knee again last month (third time in six years) and I think my running days are on hold right now, but these are some great events. I did just finish my season as coach of high school students in basketball in the Abington/Jenkintown area. This was my 8th year coaching, and I have one player who I coached from 9th through 12th, this year being his senior year. Weve developed a strong relationship and I have gotten to know his family well over the four years. His Uncle, who passed away from cancer last year at 54, was my assistant coach for three years. Each game before the game he hands me his yellow bracelet that is for his uncle, because he cant wear it during the game. After some games I forget to give it back to him and/or he forgets to get it from me. The last time that happened he was given back his yellow bracelet plus Casey's pink one. Last Sunday, we lost in the first round of the playoffs, and with a child on the way, I have thought about retiring from coaching teams as a non-parent, volunteer. But I think a lot about the "because of Casey" and I think even with a child on the way, I am going to continue through until I am a parent coach and then beyond. Its cool to look back at just 8 years and realize how many young men I have been able to influence, and several have developed into solid relationships.

Hi runners!! There was a link to this on a fitness site I read, and it is SUCH a moving story. I had seen the image of this father pushing his son in "Motivation" PSA posters around Manhattan, but didn't ever look into the real story. The son was born with cerebral palsy and ever pushed through a small race, told his father (through machine) that the only time he felt his disability when away was during a race. So his dad has pushed him through over 60 marathons and numerous Ironman triathlons (on his bike and swimming with a raft attached). It really is a must-watch!
