The Casey Tree

We wondered what we could do this holiday season as an extra special tribute to Casey. In researching pink lights for our indoor tree the thought occurred to me that the most spectacular tribute would be to wrap our massive 300 year old sycamore tree in pink lights. Pink was Casey's favorite color. It took a crew of 3-4 men 3 days to do it, but it was completed last night , on the 22nd, for all to see. The sight brings tears to my eyes and the hope that Casey can look down and see her pink light shining down on all of us.

Thought that I would share Joel's comment from this morning which he posted in the "Strengthening Relationships: group:

"... [t]he tree touches something very deep within me. I feel closer to Casey when looking up into all of the pink lights than I do almost anywhere . I talk with Casey while looking up into the tree and often I have a smile and think of many wonderful memories of Casey-including what a character she was. I know she loves the tree and is saying awww.....From all of the street traffic, comments and e-mails I know that the tree, and what it stands for, has also touched many , many people. When getting the mail, or walking Nikki people come up to me and thank me for sharing the beautiful tree and a piece of Casey's spirit with everyone."

When I finally had the chance to see this majestic and beautiful tree for myself, I was surely humbled by its magnificence. Even moreso, I was filled with pride as I realized that Casey's tree continues our remembrance of her beauty, her greater-than-life personality and her willingness to give to others. The Casey Tree is now doing what Casey always did: shining like a star and rising to envious heights. Even if some of the occupants of the endless line of cars that line up along Ridge Lane to view the Casey Tree don't know about Casey, they are touched by her through the grandeur of this tree and leave with a feeling of awe and wonder.
To Dianne, Joel and Brett, I say "Thank you for the shining tribute to our sweet Casey!"
love to you all,
aunt janice

Today's Springfield Press featured a picture of "The Casey Tree" and an explanatory caption. I love how they titled it "Lights For Casey's Spirit". I am told that it will also appear in tomorrow's News of Delaware County.

As Matt drove us to the top of your road on the 22nd, the sight of this tree took my breath away. All i could do was smile as tears moistened by eyes. Truly a lasting tribute to Casey.

Words are not sufficient to describe the wondrous beauty and grandeur of this ancient tree lifting its rosey arms toward the heavens in memory of our dear angel. No need to "hope" that "Casey can look down and see her pink light" as she is indeed doing just that. From my own personal experience in being touched by Casey, I know for a fact that she is smiling upon all of us. She is surely more than pleased that this grand sycamore, decked out in pink, is making an even grander statement of enduring love and remembrance.
What a great way to pay tribute to Casey.

loveand peace to all,

Aunt Janice
